It had only been a few days since Lottus and a battalion of other Southern Kingdom Saiyans had reared up and struck at one of the Northern Kingdom's outlier townships. According to the King, Pars, the location held some strategic importance - though of how much that importance truly is has yet to make itself clear to Lottus.
The township's defenders had been defeated and ousted, and a large majority of its civilians evacuated. Many of those civilians had also fought back, despite King Pars insistence that the general glub of Saiyan society had long atrophied into a pale mockery of what their people once were. King Pars was wrong about their cowardice, as Lottus knew he would be, but the end result the King desired was still achieved. Since the battle ended, Lottus had been assigned to remain at the location along with a fair token force to defend it.
So far, the Northern Kingdom had yet to retaliate to the attack - something that Lottus knows full well will come. To that end, he had taken his duty of patrolling the borders extremely seriously. Now, though, the Saiyan rests atop a tall rock pillar, surveying the distance. One thing had changed though - his company. Just a few feet to his left, gnawing away at a large cooked slab of meat, is Rapini. The woman had been reassigned to Lottus' unit not long after the King's Landing had been secured.
Lottus chews away at his own meal, though with much less zeal than his compatriot.
"WHEW! This Torak meat is pretty good!" Rapini grunts between bites. She wolfs down the rest of her meal and lays down, letting out a heavy sigh. "What a boring task... Guess I should'a figured it would be."
"How is this any less interesting than patrolling our own capitol borders?" Lottus asks, tearing off another bite.
"Ehhhh.... I dunno." Rapini replies, putting her hands under her head and staring up at the darkening sky. "I guess it's the same. Just was expectin' a bit more trouble I 'spose."
Lottus grins, but doesn't say anything at that; rather, he finishes the last bits of his meal and throws the bone over the ledge.
"Oy, you fought with the King for this battle, didn't ya?" Rapini asks, tilting her head to look at Lottus. "What's the guy like?"
"No, I didn't fight with the King. I followed my orders, but I wasn't far off." Lottus replies evenly, leaning back on his elbows. "...I guess the King is... alright. Seemed rather out of place, actually. Definitely wasn't dressed like he was ready for battle."
Rapini arches a brow, and emits a puzzled grunt.
"He was wearing something you'd expect some smarmy dinner guest to wear on another planet." Lottus adds, though unsure of how to word it properly. "It just... didn't fit the situation. No armor at all, just some expensive looking garb."
"Different upbringing, sounds like." Rapini says dismissively. "Well that's boring."
"You think everything is boring." Lottus retorts, barking a laugh. Rapini flashes her teeth in a wide grin, hissing a laugh through them.

Pain. A pain to his pride, pain to his body. It was what consumed the Northern King at this point after his failure on Earth-2's World Tournament. Furthermore, it appeared in his absence the Southern Empire had raised up, attacking a bordering city between them and overtook it, ending countless lives in the process. Retasu was wracked with a sense of guilt. It was only a few days away, it was what he had told himself to convince his uncle and some of the others that they would be fine, that the South would not grow so bold as to attack any time soon. It was not like them. He didn't count on the relentlessness of Pars, who Retasu still did not know was actually claiming to be the King in the South. For all Retasu knew, Pars was a Southern warrior with as much pride as anyone he had known, going to Earth-2 to scout the area. Perhaps Retasu should have sent Serori instead, but what was done was done. He had to find a way to gain some peace back within himself, and to gain some trust back from some of his own.
"Retasu-sama, perhaps we should have a few more of us go with you. The South just attacked, they may still--" An hand came up to hush the other male in the room, another talker, another person whose job was to convince Retasu to do this, or not do that. A strong exhale came from his nostrils, tightening the white glove around his hand. "I'm going. I don't need an army to take out two people. I'm bringing Serori with me, we'll be able to handle anyone just fine, especially just two of them." Maybe it was that Pars again, and his hybrid compatriot, Beefa. He was more than willing to start paying people back who had struck a blow to his pride, his face in a bit of a frown as he left the briefing room quickly. Leaving the Imperial Tower, which was decently being rebuilt, though re-construction had stopped due to the latest attack from the South, Retasu gave a quick nod to Serori before exploding upwards into the air, the female following behind him.
"Retasu-sama, your Scouter?" The female had one one, the usual white colored mechanism fixed over her ear, a blue lens over her eye already picking up readings of Battle Powers in the area. "Don't need one. I've learned a few things. Focus your mind and you'll be able to feel someone's energy without one of them, though I suppose they will come in handy for other things." Serori looked a bit taken aback by the announcement. She didn't expect to be able to feel someone's Battle Power, unsure of what that even really meant.
Eventually they'd come to the spot where the other duo rested, landing below them in comparison to their high perched spot. Serori had landed first, able to pick up their Battle Powers easier with her Scouter than Retasu could "naturally" at the moment. With both of them on the ground now, Retasu took a step forward, in front of Serori, letting his voice ring out, deep and commanding as usual. "You might as well come out now. We know you're here. I won't ambush you like your cowardly King did to our own people, I'll let you see me before I kill you." There was a bit of hatred in his voice, something that made Serori arch a thin brow at. She had never heard him speak that way before, something about King Retasu was different.

Neither Lottus nor Rapini possessed a scouter to warn them of the incoming threat - worse still is that they couldn't feel Ki either. So when the commanding voice boomed from below their roost, it makes both of the Southern Saiyans twitch violently in surprise. Rapini was the first to her feet, rushing over to the edge of the stone pillar to gaze down at the source of the voice. Even low-class warriors like Rapini and Lottus would recognize the King of the Northern Regions. Rapini's eyes widen, her pupils seeming to shrink as a deep cold bolts through her.
"Ah...a-ah-hah....! L-Lottus..!" Rapini stammers fearfully, prompting the larger Saiyan to hurry to her side. As with Rapini, Lottus is struck by a deep, clutching cold stab through his chest as his eyes settle on the pair waiting below. Unlike Rapini, however, Lottus manages to control his fear - though still gritting his teeth, and making his fingers curl into fists. "Tha...that's...!"
King Retasu..! Lottus finishes in his mind. Blast damn King Pars' decisions! I knew they would come here..!
Lottus sets his jaw, and steps closer to the ledge, but Rapini slaps a hand against Lottus' chest in a vain attempt to stop him.
"W-where th' heck d'you think you're goin'?!" Rapini rushes to say, tripping over her words.
"To do my duty." Lottus replies flatly.
"Then let's book it back to command!" Rapini argues. Lottus understands her fear - he too is afraid, but he knew this would happen the moment it became clear that King Pars' plan to attack the North was revealed. "We should warn 'em that the enemy is here!"
"We don't have that kind of time, Rapini." Lottus answers, his eyes locked on the two below. The dark-skinned woman was unfamiliar, but if King Retasu brought her along and no one else, then it was either a testament to their individual capabilities, or the woman may not be too different than Rapini's personality. "There's no way we're gonna get away from them in time to send out that warning. We can hope that whatever is about to happen will be enough of a warning, though."
With that said, Lottus hops over the ledge, wasting no further time.
"ARGH!! Dammit, Lottus!!" Rapini growls, heedless of her own fear as she throws herself down after Lottus. The two Saiyans land within conversational distance from Retasu and the other woman, but otherwise keep their distance. Supposedly, King Pars and that demon brat fought King Retasu and managed to defeat him - but it still took both of them to do it.
I doubt I could hold Retasu off for long, never mind his ally as well. Lottus silently considers. Although, despite the fear tightening in his chest, another sensation bolts through him as well - the chance to fight another warrior, not some prissy entitled child or barely capable token defenders. The possibility of death is very real now, but Lottus braces himself, and stands defiantly opposite of Retasu.
"King Pars enjoys his back-handed tactics." Lottus loudly barks back after a few moments of silence. "That's how he took control of the Southern Regions, after all. We are not so similar."
Lottus gestures at himself and at Rapini, who manages to mostly control her shaking.
"I am Lottus, and this is Rapini, and before we die; we would make it known to you, King Retasu, that we are warriors, not opportunists." Lottus continues, again tightening his hands into fists. "I have been tasked with the defense of this conquered territory, and will do so - even against you." Retasu

Another duo appeared before them after Retasu had called out. Similar to himself and Serori it was a male and female pair. With the two being so close to him, Retasu was able to get a better hold on their ki. The male was far more powerful than the female, as far as he could tell, though both of them were ranked much lower than himself in strength. It was something he had hoped to harness more control over, the ability to feel out ki energy. During the Tenkaichi Budokai, and even during some intense battles here on Daikondu, Retasu had always felt surges all over his body at specific parts of the battle. It was apparently his body automatically reading out ki signatures, the very life energy that kept was alive as well as determined their Battle Power, or strength. However, it wasn't until the male spoke that Retasu could feel a surge of something else in him. But this time it was anger.
"Did he just say...?" Serori mumbled low to herself, standing a few feet behind Retasu still before Retasu had finished it, his words leaving his mouth in almost a growl. "Pars." So, that was it. This Pars was the new standing King in the South, the latest usurper to attempt and take Daikondu away from Retasu, the rightful King. He had his run ins with Pars, both here on Daikondu when he was beaten by him and Beefa, but also on Earth-2 for the tournament, where Retasu came out on top. Arms, almost instinctively, crossed over that pristine white and gold vest battle armor as he stared Lottus down, he was the one doing all the talking after all. He had introduced himself as Lottus, the female as Rapini. "I will say, your King does have himself some powerful allies. I believe you may even be stronger than he was when he fought me in the Earth-2 tournament not too long ago."
He forced a smirk, through obvious anger welling up inside of him that the little snake of a Saiyajin was right under his nose on two separate occasions. Under handed tactics, indeed. "He didn't last very long against myself. In fact, I believe it may have been the fastest fight of the entire tournament. Which makes sense, he high tailed it off the planet before I was even in the finals, so he could come back here and wreak havoc knowing how strong I am. I suppose I hurt his pride in such a way that I left him no choice. Makes me wonder..." Retasu trailed off, his tail wavering behind him before finding its way around his armored waist. Although, Retasu couldn't speak much on the matter. He was the one who had stayed behind on Earth-2 for a day or so after the tournament, which may or may not have cost him valuable time in the end.
"Regardless, it makes all of this an easier pill to swallow. Pars is as arrogant as ever, keeping only two soldiers at your levels here to defend it. But knowing that bastard, he has a trick up his sleeve. Is the hybrid girl hiding in the shadows somewhere? Or maybe Pars himself? It would make sense, your false King has a wretched sense of honor." The words were nearly spat out, eyes narrowed into near slits while Serori kept an eye on the other female from behind Retasu.

Lottus remains planted firmly in place as the Northern King begins speaking again, though Lottus notes that the female behind Retasu reacts to what he had said. Lottus' eyes narrow at King Retasu's estimation of Lottus' capability - flattery was an effective disarming tool, but not one Lottus would fall for.
"I would not presume to understand the King's decisions - a soldier's place is to assure the success of their Lord's designs, not question them." Lottus replies evenly, though there is a hint of uncertainty in his voice. Lottus had heard little about King Pars' time off Daikondu, and never bothered to ask about it, if one were to be honest.
Although, the Northern King's demeanor changes, showing off ever more confidence, giving Lottus pause. Although Retasu had not yet attacked, the strange mixed feelings of cold fear and anticipation still grip his chest. This was all just pretense - King Retasu is probing for answers, hoping that Lottus would be able to provide him with intel before brushing them off the map.
"We two are soldiers of the Southern Kingdom." Lottus announces firmly. "The whereabouts of our King, and even that demon brat, are not going to leave our lips. Only a cowardly traitor surrenders information at the mere threat of death. Whether they are here or not, you can discover for yourself afterwards."
Lottus inclines his head forward slightly, shifting his feet farther apart.
"There could be only two of us, or two hundred chosen to defend this territory." Lottus warns, raising his fists to chest height. "Another detail for you to iron out."
Suddenly, Rapini steps up next to Lottus, dropping into her own combat stance.
"You know... when I complained about there not bein' any trouble... I wasn't bein' serious..." Rapini says towards Lottus, who glances sideways at her. "Well, my fault for jinxin' us then. Would'a liked more time though..."
Lottus' brow furrows, and his eyes return to King Retasu.
"Doesn't matter." Lottus replies in an equally low tone. "We're warriors, and this is war - it was bound to happen eventually."
"Guess we have one thing goin' for us, buddy." Rapini grins, though her body still shudders. "Least people can say it took a battle against the actual friggin' King of the Northern Regions before we got offed."
Lottus glances at Rapini again, and then lets out a heavy sigh. He grins and settles firmly into his combat posture.
"Yeah, got that right." Lottus answers, his tail twitching with anticipation. He then raises his voice again, to reach Retasu. "Sorry to disappoint you, your highness, but you'll get nothing else outta either of us. And we'd prefer it if you didn't toy around, if we're gonna die, we'd rather go out honorably."

Retasu and Serori listened to the both of them speak, the Northern King taking in all that was being said. However, Lottus seemed to be smarter than he anticipated, not giving up any more information about Pars or his plans. He wasn't surprised, in truth. Lottus carried himself like he had it all together, he was not how he envisioned most Southerners to act. "Fair enough. But if you want to go out honorably then it's safe more me to assume the two of you just about completes this area's only line of defense. If there were two hundred of you, you'd likely have called them in or called them off, if your sense of honor is nothing like that of Pars. Though I suppose we will wait and see about that, won't we?"
Retasu watched them change stances, as if they were actually going to defend this area with their lives. He would give them some credit, in his own mind anyway. The other female was more of a deterrent for Lottus than having any sense of giving him an advantage. Her power didn't match Serori's, or even himself or Lottus. "I'm sure Pars kept his loss to me on Earth-2 a whisper, if it was talked about at all. While his victory over myself with the hybrid was likely all he could talk about otherwise. I'd say he should be proud of himself, but again, he failed to do anything of substance against me. The female's power was multiplied by many times due to some transformation, similar to that of an Oozaru, in sheer force, anyway. But I suppose that's why I wasn't killed. Some odd sense of pride is welled up inside the man, and he couldn't allow the female to take all his glory. I must say, I am surprised, however..." His lip curled into a bit of a snarl, still standing in that cross armed pose, unmoving. Serori would match him in a similar stance. "I won't let the same mistake happen again."
His arms would uncross, pointing a finger at Rapini, though not looking directly at her. His eyes were fixed on Lottus. "There is no honor in me slaughtering someone so weak, or for Serori to do it. Call her off, send her back to your false King, if you must. While I will let her survive, I can't say the same for Serori if she crosses me." A thumb would point behind him to the other female, Serori showing a small snarl as well as she rolled her neck some to loosen it. Arms uncrossed to tape at her Scouter, the machine beeping as it read out Rapini's Battle Power, Serori letting out a slight "Tch" in response to it. "You're the one I'm going to prove a point to, and she'll be alive to carry your corpse back over the border." His words were definitely more violent than they had ever been, vowing to not end any Saiyajin life on this planet other than the false King, whoever they may be, be it Totoma, Pars, or otherwise. Though his pride being shattered several times had led him down to this much darker tone, with a sense of needing to prove himself all over again and just how powerful he was.
Retasu throwing out the terms. It can be a 1v1 or a Team Battle! Will let Lottus decide on his response. The How To's will be explained for Team Battle if it's chosen! If you are going to roll init for a Team Battle, you must declare if it is for Lottus or Rapini to go first.

As expected, the Northern King immediately calls Lottus' bluff regarding other soldiers stationed at the outlier city. Not that is was wholly untrue - in order to maintain control, a token force was indeed stationed there. But like the original defenders, few of them even surpassed Rapini, whom King Retasu clearly held in no regard.
The two Saiyans listen to Retasu, but hold their ground until the King finishes speaking. Part of Lottus wanted to smack talk Beefa, agreeing with Retasu's notation on her, but resists the urge. Doing so would undermine the Southern Kingdom's unity - even if that unity is a shaky one at best.
"Someone as weak as...? Friggin' jerk..!" Rapini growls, her left eye twitching. "I ain't some mutt that gets called off!!"
"I accept your terms." Lottus replies, straightening his posture, making Rapini twitch and snap her eyes to her compatriot. "Rapini will be my witness for this battle. In return, I have terms as well."
Despite being in no situation to make demands, Lottus still feels compelled to do so.
"I highly doubt I will be able to kill you, even if I had the chance, I doubt your ally would permit it." Lottus continues. "But... should I somehow find victory in this battle, I ask that you withdraw - and officially cede this territory to the Southern Kingdom."
"Are you friggin' kiddin' me, Lottus?!" Rapini shouts, taking an openly panicked stance. "Ain't no way I'm just gonna stand by and watch you get killed by that guy!! Sure we'll both get offed, but at least -"
"Rapini! Be quiet!!" Lottus barks, making Rapini flinch. "Your mission is observation and reporting! You'll only get in my way - I can't fight and protect you at the same time!"
"L-Lottus..!" Rapini starts, grabbing his arm. In response, Lottus reaches up and places his arm on her shoulder.
"You aren't weak, Rapini. But you aren't ready for this kind of battle." Lottus looks over at Retasu, narrowing his eyes. "Neither am I, if I'm gonna be honest. They're giving you the chance to get back once things are said and done. Don't waste their generosity."
Lottus starts walking towards Retasu, his jaw set and a look of determination in his eyes.
"Lottus!!" Rapini shouts, making him stop, but not turn away from Retasu. For a moment, Rapini says nothing, but stares at her compatriot's back. Lottus turns and grins at her briefly before continuing towards Retasu.
Now only a few yards away, Lottus takes a deep breath, exhaling slowly.
"The first time I fought to protect my people, it was against King Pars and his legion of mercenaries." Lottus admits to Retasu, his hands curling into fists. "I failed then; and now I face you. I'll likely fail again, but at least I won't have to deal with the shame of being useless. This time, I'll have the pride of being the first wall you have to topple over before you get anywhere near my own lands."
The ground beneath Lottus begins to rumble and vibrate slightly, and electrified Ki dances along his frame.
"I expect you to keep your word, and allow Rapini to live, even if I lose like a dog." Lottus warns. "Harm her, and I'll haunt you for the rest of your life, and kick your ass in Hell when you get there!"
Purple Ki erupts around Lottus, sending whipping winds at the Northern Saiyans.
"Watch me, Rapini!" Lottus shouts over the howling winds. "And you be sure to tell that King of ours how a real warrior dies!!"

The other female was called off by Lottus, Retasu opting to do the same. After all, he was going to go into this battle fairly. Despite it all, Retasu's honor was still something he held in high regard, among his kind that would likely be the death of him. Retasu's arms were down at his side, his left hand gently waving Serori off, looking over his shoulder at her with a firm nod of approval. It was okay for her to create some distance. With one last look over at her King, Serori's eyes glanced over at the other duo, the male calling off the female, Serori herself floating upwards and landing gently a safe ways away. When Rapini broke off from Lottus, Serori called out to her with a grin that could only be seen as mocking the girl. "Just keep yourself out of harm's way and we won't have to send back two corpses, girl." She lifted up her right hand and showed two fingers, as if to emphasize the point.
Retasu kept his loose posture, listening to Lottus' story as a brow arched upwards in response to it. "You fought for my Kingdom, you're saying?" He took a longer look at Lottus, not recognizing him at all. The Northern side was quite large, or had been. It was unlikely Retasu would remember the face of every member, in all honesty. Pars had made an aggressive push quite a while ago, scooping up some of Retasu's own Northern territories, shrinking his stake down considerably in the process. Perhaps Lottus had been in that fray, from what he understood. "If that's the case then I'm glad to see Pars has not decided to kill indiscriminately, but I am ashamed at myself that we could not come and protect you or your people. For that, you have my apologies." Shifting his position, Retasu would lower down to an offensive stance now, the winds beginning to whip up and howl around them. "However, you've decided to join the false King in his endeavors rather than die with the honor of knowing you served the rightful King of Daikondu, and for that alone I must do away with you."
His muscles felt a bit tighter now, focusing on feeling out Lottus' ki to gauge just how far this fight would need to go. "You have my word, Lottus. When I am done with you it will be the burden of the girl to carry what's left of you back to your false King, as both a reminder and a warning. I hope he honors the loss of your life at his own hands. This is his doing, if there is anyone to blame for your soul having unrest it is him. Haaaaa!!!" Once Lottus' own purple aura erupted from within his body, Retasu would call on his own power, and in a blue blaze his own ki burst forth and surrounded him.
It was time.

As the purple Ki aura swirls around Lottus, he grits his teeth at Retasu.
"You are mistaken, I have never fought on your kingdom's behalf - the Southern Regions are and always will be my home!" Lottus barks at the Northern King, angered by his presumption. "You can claim to be the overlord of us Saiyans, but until the day comes that the two Kingdoms are one nation, your claim is empty!"
Lottus' muscles tighten, and small cracks in the ground appear around the Saiyan's feet. The combined powering up of the two warriors causes the ground to shudder ever more violently, forcing Rapini to fly up to avoid being shaken off her feet. Rapini leers at the other female Saiyan, but bites back a retort. Picking a fight now would only cause problems. Still, Rapini raises a hand, giving Serori an obscene gesture and sticking out her tongue.
"Until a day like that comes, you are both only claimers to a title!" Lottus bellows. "And no one has claim to my soul - I fight for my own reasons, for my own people! My death is in my hands - not yours, and not in King Pars' hands! And no one who claims to be royalty could ever understand what that means!"
Lottus lowers himself, ready to engage the Northern Region King. This King was no different than Pars, both believed in a self determined right to rule. The only difference between them was how they justified their claims. At last, Lottus' left boot digs into the ground as he launches at Retasu with all the ferocity of a warrior who accepted their fate. Lottus closes the distance between himself and Retasu in half a heart beat.
"The honor of death defending my Kingdom is mine, not the usurper King's to have!!" Lottus shouts as he fast approaches Retasu.
In the instant of movement, Lottus sees Rapini watching with his peripherals. Yes, I fight for you, Rapini... Not for whoever decides to call themselves a King... At least this way, I can make up for my failure to stop Pars' mercenaries, even if only a bit. Thank you for being there with me at the start, and at the end... Lottus fully focuses on Retasu, his mind set on one thing - victory, or death in trying. He would die a warrior, and not an opportunist.
Lottus begins by ramming his left foot into the ground, immediately stopping his momentum. Rather than throw some volley of punches, the Saiyan's arms move fluidly, in almost serpent-like motion, aiming various side-handed chops and palm-heel strikes at Retasu's face and chest. His body would suddenly contort to the right, throwing him into a fast spin. Lottus' right foot comes swinging down from over Retasu's head, aimed at top of the King's head!

He had misunderstood, it seemed. However, it was interesting that some of the South had decided to hold their own against Pars once the mercenary King had pushed forward, rather than join the North or immediately bend their knee to Pars, himself. This man, Lottus, was a fighter and a warrior with fierce honor. Even if his own recognized King apparently had none, he would not allow himself to dip so low. Retasu wondered if there were more on Pars' side with the same mentality as Lottus. How many had gone through the same thing? It made the King in the North think a bit, as he waited for Lottus to eventually strike. Then he did.
The Southern warrior dashed forward at incredible speed, Retasu's eyes were able to keep up with him, however. As the carefully placed fists came forward, Retasu would let his own arms move, doing his best to deflect the chops and palm strikes that were intended to slip through and break his defenses. The strikes still caused the young King pain, though it was better to use his arms and hands rather than take a direct shot to the face. The overhead kick was intercepted a bit, as Retasu lowered his center of gravity a bit, throwing his left arm up so that foot would come crashing into his forearm, preventing it from fully spiking him on the top of the head. "I see. So, you decided to fight Pars rather than join him willingly. I respect that, somewhat. Still, you are loyal to the wrong man, and a false Empire."
With his right fist free, Retasu would send it upwards, attempting to drill Lottus in his armored gut with enough force to push him back. Either way, he'd throw the leg off his left arm and leap backwards to create some space between them. "It's unfortunate you will not live long enough to see the planet united under my banner. Though, you may die knowing that our battle here was the initial step in that process. While Pars hides and fights battles away from me, I will pursue him to the very ends of this planet! Haaaaa!!!" Another mighty war cry escape him, Retasu would now rush forward himself, pushing his energy outwards and closing the gap between himself and Lottus.
He wanted to overpower Lottus as much as possible, letting his fists fly, not in a similar motion than his opponent who showed more finesse. Retasu, instead, let his left and right arms rocket forward like motor pistons, pushing and snapping as fast as possible with great force behind each punch. If one would slip, it was aimed at his chin. He would break this man down piece by piece, and send him back to the South as such.

[ Doubles Hit. Previous attack connected in full. ] With one of those fists breaking through Lottus' defenses, he watched the other Saiyajin stagger backwards some and leave an opening to continue his combination. "Hopefully you last longer in this fight than your King did on Earth."
Retasu rushed forward once more, lifting a leg up and bending his knee to send it colliding into Lottus' midsection in an attempt to knock the wind clear out of him.

To no surprise, the Northern King fends off the majority of Lottus' strikes, even his sudden overhead kick! The Saiyan warrior grits his teeth as the King haughtily replied to him, and promptly throws a heavy strike at Lottus' midsection. The warrior manages to cross his arms in the way, taking the brunt of the blow to his forearms, though the King immediately shoves Lottus' leg out of the way. As Retasu speaks, Lottus back-peddles to put some distance between them, and falls back into his combat stance.
The warrior was given no time to reply, though he didn't try to; Retasu bursts forth, closing the distance between them and engages Lottus in a furious assault. It was all Lottus could manage that he intercepted some of the piston-like blows with his arms and palms. Some of the strikes slip though his defenses, with Lottus clearly showing to be slower to react than Retasu - or, more likely, the King is simply just that much faster than him. One powerful punch slips right past Lottus' defense and nails him right on the jaw, sending Lottus staggering a few steps backwards.
Before Lottus can steady himself, the Northern King rockets forward, ramming his knee into Lottus' stomach. Despite the durable armor, the blow easily knocks the wind out of Lottus' lungs, and the Saiyan warrior is sent several meters up and back through the air, landing hard against the ground. His head bounces off the hard ground, leaving scrapes across his forehead and left temple and matting the scrapes with dirt. Lottus reflexively curls up as he attempts to stand. His efforts are stemmed by the harsh intakes of breath as the Saiyan tries to breath again, though the effort causes Lottus to cough up blood, splattering on the ground just below his face.
Rapini suddenly leans forward, but stops and glances briefly sideways at Serori. She clenches her fists and relents, watching Lottus intently as the Saiyan struggles to push himself off the ground and back onto his feet. Lottus wipes the blood from his mouth and chin, and turns to face Retasu again. There was no two ways about it - the man is strong, too strong for Lottus to even hope to defeat - but the notion was still a nice idea. Being able to turn away the Northern King would have certainly made up for his failure to stop Pars' mercenaries. But there would still be honor in this battle. At least he would put up a fight.
Lottus coughs again, and spits out more blood, but his breathing returns to normal.
"Looks like I'll be disappointing you then..." Lottus finally replies. "I doubt I'll be able to put up much more of a fight than King Pars, but damn if I don't try."
Lottus settles back into his combat pose, though his chest throbs in protest. A visible crack had appeared across the front of his armor, though Lottus didn't care much about that.
"King Pars must have done than you say to piss you off so much, if you won't stop yammering on about him." Lottus grins, refocusing his Ki. "False King this, fake Kingdom that, you are definitely stronger than me, but don't overlook me so much - or I may slip in a mean hit or two! You're fightin' me, not him - so focus on now, on me, not on the future!"
With that said, Lottus rockets forth to re-engage Retasu, fully understanding his own peril.
"You're gonna kill me for sure, but I'm gonna make you work for it!!" Lottus shouts as he closes the distance. This time, Lottus' flurry of strikes changes - rather than aiming at the King's face at all, the Saiyan moves in an odd pattern, aiming palm-heel strikes and elbows at Retasu' chest and stomach, but also spinning and ducking to aim sliding kicks at Retasu' knees and heels.
Regardless of how effective the flurry is, Lottus would suddenly jump skyward as he thrusts his hands back and forth, firing dozens of small purple Ki balls at the Northern King!

Retasu's first show of power and retaliation against Lottus proved to be effective. After all, the Southern sympathizer was already spitting up blood. The Northern King had backed off some, allowing the other man some time to gain his bearings. He would at least make this fight interesting, though Retasu was sure not to completely relax. Though he was stronger, Lottus was surely strong himself. Taking him too lightly could mean bad news for the King in the North. As Lottus began to speak, Retasu smirked a bit in response. "Don't give him so much credit, Lottus. Perhaps you are willing to stand behind the man who holds all the power over you, but that doesn't make him stronger by any means."
Serori was standing her ground, watching as Rapini leaned forward for a moment. She stared daggers into the girl, as if daring her to move in a way that would allow her to strike her down. She knew Retasu would scold her for it, but she had hoped Rapini at least gave her a reason.
It was the second part that struck a nerve with Retasu, that smirk quickly fading away to more of a frown now as his eyes narrowed. "Of course. He is in the way of uniting the planet as one, to finally end this damn civil war so we can become ONE Empire again, one Empire under the rightful King." He could feel his blood running hot like magma, an anger rising up within him just thinking about it. "It is my blood that carries the history of this planet, my ancestor who came and colonized it, who ruled it! It is MY birth right!" A fist clenched, the words came out and Retasu was almost ashamed of them. This was the selfish part of the King, having had his lineage drilled into his brain since he was a child. He was born for this, his very existence was proof of that. This was HIS destiny, even if he sounded like a child for spouting it out the way he did. "NOT SOME DAMN MERCENARY KING!"
As Lottus told him to focus, ordered him to do so, Retasu silently complied as the other Saiyajin rushed forward. His attacks were able to break his defenses this time, his mind lost in thought and anger, everything clouded. He was unable to concentrate on defending, so those strikes slipped through and jabbed at his armored chest and stomach, nearly tripping him backwards from the swipes at his legs. It caused him to clench his teeth and growl, but all he could do was throw his arms up in an "X" pattern over his body to protect himself from the various ki blasts that pelted him and exploded on impact.
It was Serori's turn to give a bit of a worried look, but still not moving, like a statue. However, her beloved King would pull through.
"If my full attention and power is what you want....!!" The Northern King screamed, letting his arms move away and his body tanking the blasts aimed at him fully, so he could thrust both arms forward with palms opened and aimed at Lottus. "THEN THAT IS WHAT YOU'LL GET! HAAA!!" As quickly as he could, Retasu would put an end to the ki blast assault by firing a wave of ki of his own. A literal pillar of energy was fired from between his palms, ripping through the air and detonating any blasts of ki being fired after, moving at an insane speed and aimed to swallow up Lottus whole.
However, he was feeling the sting of Lottus' assault. It was more than anything his Southern King had dished out to him, but he wouldn't admit it. Besides, Lottus had a point. Perhaps it was time to not focus on Pars and to keep his mind on THIS battle.

[ Doubles Hit. ] Retasu continued to hold the ki wave strong, roaring out as he let as much of his energy be used as a literal weapon against Lottus. His feet plunged into the ground under him from the sheer force of the attack, seemingly going all out right from the start against the Southern soldier. He would make sure to make an example out of this one, whether Pars cared enough or not was the question.

As the pillar of Ki rushes after Lottus, the Saiyan's eyes widen - but he manages to recompose himself, gritting his teeth and throwing his arms up to protect his face and chest. He is completely enveloped in a massive, blinding explosion that causes the very ground to shudder, as well as blow away the nearby pillar of stone from the sheer force of the shockwave.
"L-Lottus!!" Rapini shouts, staring at the large cloud of smoke in the sky. But before anything further can be said, part of the smoke cloud seems to jut outwards, like a spear shooting from the cloud. The end of the smoke cloud pulls away, revealing Lottus! Not unharmed, but not terribly hurt either - his exposed skin is littered with scrapes and light burns. "Haha!! Darn idiot! Makin' me get all worried!!"
Lottus, unable to hear Rapini, rockets towards Retasu through the air - his eyes set in a grim determination. But as he approaches Retasu, the expression becomes one of growing excitement. Not only had he survived the blast, but it now became apparent that this battle would be a glorious one. Retasu is strong, very strong. The chance to fight a powerful opponent ignites the passion in Lottus' Saiyan blood, every blow he took and returned fed into this passion - this love for combat! Lottus charges straight into the inferno that is the Northern King's power, and throws a vicious left elbow aimed at Retasu's jaw. He would follow up with another flurry of serpentine-like chops and palm-heel strikes, trying to push the King off balance and gain some kind of foothold himself.
"Hell if I care about birthrights!" Lottus laughs as he continues the assault, his excitement now shining through despite the dire situation he is in. "This is it -- this is what we are!! This is what I want; a real battle worth fighting! Blood doesn't make you a warrior, but that strength of yours does!"
Lottus would suddenly disengage, skidding backwards and breathing heavily. A wild grin appears on his face, and his body begins shaking - no longer with fear, but with sheer enjoyment!
"Yeah... I can feel it..! My blood's boiling now!" Lottus laughs, focusing his Ki, causing his aura to flare. "Let's go, King Retasu! Let's do our ancestors proud!!"
Without warning, Lottus swings his left arm wide, firing a stream of purple Ki that threatens to wash over Retasu, and a wide expanse of the land behind him, like a tidal wave brought on by a tsunami! Lottus knowingly, and purposefully, landed in a way to prevent himself from firing the blast in the direction of their companions, or the city not too far from the battle site.
