Dian Xin was once again back to wandering, though his body was a bit more worse for wear. His muscles ached, throbbing with every step he took down the dusty path. The young hybrid was hurting. Though it had been sometime since his encounter with the bubblegum beast, Kazam, his body was still sore from their altercation. He hurt all over. He'd gotten into that fight over some beef jerky, and now... Well, he preferred not think about that fight. It was time to move on. He had to put things behind him and keep on moving, for better or for worse. The sword at his hip bounced with every step he took, constantly reminding him of its presence. It was a comforting weight, that much was for certain. It reminded him of family, of his origins. Dian Xin's pace slow as his thoughts turned to his father. Where was his wayward father now? The closest thing he had to his father now was the blade at his hip. He missed his father, but it was just the way that they were: wanderers at heart, and the road was there home. With a single sigh, Dian Xin picked up his pace once again. He was eastward-bound, headed for the less populated parts of Earth II. But for now, he was still in what would be considered the tropics. If he left the road, he'd not have to wander far to find the ocean. He'd met one person in his tropical wanderings, who knew what else the road might hold?

Luo was feeling fairly sore himself, as it were. His lust for money had attracted him to another's weakness yet again, only this time the contract sort of...fell through. Well, not really; the situation as it had been was that he was protecting a client, a slippery, shady businessman at that (a sharp but patched up suit and everything, he should have known better), from the vengeance of a customer that happened to be very particular when it came to the designs of hunt-and-collect battle androids. At the end of the day, his trusty blade at his hip had seen him through. After all, using it against something alive made his stomach turn in all the wrong ways, but cutting through metal and circuitry of something that didn't even resemble humanoid? No problem. So where was his money, then? After Luo had fought off the squadron of mechanical attack drones just outside the city limits, the client was nowhere to be found. He'd made for his escape vehicle and ran, and it wasn't until just recently that a lackey of that shifty zoanthrope had passed by him on his way out of South City, just to inform that his client was indeed well and safe. When pressed for payment, he was assured the client was just ''getting his funds together'' and ''figuring stuff out''. With a blank, deadpan stare, Luo had angrily stomped away after being promised the pair would stay in contact. He didn't work for free. One way or another, he'd get his Zeni. One step closer to striking it rich, and it was dangling above his head on a string. Needless to say, that left him in a pretty bad mood with his own share of scrapes and bruises that he'd mostly had to patch up himself, thanks to the lack of funding. He'd made his way out of town some time ago. As fate would have it, he too had struck out eastward. The edges of the ocean had just come into view, and he couldn't help but admire the sight. He stopped for a few moments to look, and maybe decide where he was going to go next. He'd been on the road for some time now and really needed to consider where help of his kind could be welcomed. With his eyes finally resting on a large, almost flat rock, he'd take slow and calm steps over to it before unpacking a snack from his small travel satchel. He withdrew a hastily packed container of quick noodles, withdrawing a bottle of water to add in. Holding the cup in his hands as he began to heat it with his own ki, after several moments it came to an almost-boil; he'd withdraw a pair of packaged chopsticks and begin to eat. Maybe he could head to the desert at some point? He hated the cold, but maybe even the North would work fine too. Either way, work had dried up in the tropical southern region. He'd really been grasping at straws lately. After the stressful past few days he'd had, he finally felt himself begin to calm.

Dian Xin kept moving along the road, plodding along, slowly making his way down the coastal road. The a low groan emanated from his stomach, as if to remind him that the time for a meal was nearing. Dian sighed. What did he even have left? That damnable bubble gum monster had stolen his beef jerky. And kicked his ass! Dian Xin did not know what was worse: being hungry or sore. In the back of his mind, he slowly went over the supplies he should still have, provided the bubble gum beast had not taken anything else that Dian Xin was not aware of. The demonic halfblood had... little of anything, now that he thought of it. It had been a while since his last stop by a town, much less a stop by a general store. Perhaps that should be his next objective. Of course, that might be hard given that he was eastward bound. Great, thought Dian Xin bitterly, that meant he was going to either have to turn back and find a town, follow the road and hope the next town was not that far off, or hunt. Dian Xin was loathe to turn around. He'd put that behind him. And besides, he was hesitant to double back and maybe come across that thing again. He was not in the mood to be accosted by another of the creature's "shows" then subsequently mugged. Though he had to admit, it was a nice little racket the creature had. One Dian Xin would like to see ended, but Dian was in no shape to end things. Especially after the creature had proven capable of transforming into that tiny terror of a thing. He could follow the road. That was no issue. Dian Xin had spent his entire life on the road. Though it might mean going hungry for a while longer, he was going that way anyway. It would not be the first time Dian Xin had been denied food, whether through his own poor planning or by accident, though he had to admit it was the first time he'd been mugged by some kind of super powered clown. Besides, he reasoned, the next town could not be that far off, could it? Roads had to go somewhere. That was how they were made! Who the hell built a road that went nowhere? Ergo, thought Dian Xin, he'd hit civilization eventually, 'eventually' being the key word. Then there was hunting. Dian Xin knew how to hunt; he knew how to skin an animal, how to prepare one for consumption. And it would be a small matter to hunt. Dian Xin could outpace most animals and it would be trivial to kill one. Though it would be messy and... Well, Dian Xin did not want to make a mess or kill something if he did not have too. All the while he weighed his options, he kept moving along the road. Lost in his own thoughts, it was only through his peripheral vision that he spotted a large, flat rock off the road, a man perched a top. Dian Xin stopped in his tracks and did a double take. Another traveler? Did that mean civilization was nearby? Or was this guy just as clueless as he was? Well, thought Dian Xian, there was really only one way to find out! He stepped off the road and made a line for the perched man. "Hey!" He shouted out, "Do you know how far it is until the next town? I'm heading eastward!"Dian Xin continued his approach, closing the distance, and coming into speaking distance. "Sorry to bother you," he added, "Just trying to figure out where I'm going!"

It was a tough decision indeed; with no payment to keep him going, how was Luo going to get by? He cradled his chin in thought after getting a curtain of noodles halfway into his mouth, slurping obnoxiously until they vanished into his mouth where he chewed voraciously. Now that he was on the road, it was pretty unlikely he'd ever find that stupid zoanthrope again to collect his dues. He took a calm glance at his sword restored to its previous state from before his battle against the pack of androids. Normally, he'd had a rope tethered around the instrument of battle. It was tied into a knot right where the hilt and scabbard met, in memory of his favorite elder's request at the temple. The old man had given him the sword with his blessing, it being Luo's favorite weapon while training, but made him promise never to use it against a living thing unless it was most assuredly evil. He'd kept that in mind since he left, but it made him conflicted; before he could get distracted in the crisis concerning the morality of a machine made for combat, he'd shake his thoughts off and withdraw some more rope to bind the weapon once again, preventing him from drawing it unless he took a complicated series of actions in order to do so. He did love the thing quite a bit, and it had made him the money that carried him this far, at least. He would pick up his bowl again, shoveling another curtain of noodles into his face as he gazed across the water. He was about halfway through slurping up his food when he heard a voice shouting from the distance. He went against his base reaction instincts to turn with all that food hanging out of his face, so he quickly took a couple of chews and a hard swallow, wiping his mouth with his sleeve as he sat the bowl down. He'd rest his sword against the pit of his shoulder, leaned into him, then peek back over his shoulder. The question was a difficult one, even for Luo's stubborn know-it-all personality. He decided he'd just be honest. ''Y'know, i'm actually not all that sure. All roads lead somewhere though, right? Gotta be somethin' that way. I'm headed east too, go figure!'' He watched the stranger close a little distance, and it was then that he noticed he carried a blade on his hip as well. Interesting. He couldn't tell much about the guy from his posture, but he somehow looked tired; naturally, Luo had no idea of the stranger's dealings with a Majin in a beef jerky mugging. The stranger apologized upon his approach. ''Eh, yer alright. It's no bother ta me. I don't know m'way around that well neither, but i'm headed the same way.'' While normally he wouldn't be so inclined to share his food, he was slowly thinking about a possible business venture. This guy had a weapon, and guys with weapons usually expected trouble. Trouble meant a scrap, and a scrap could mean money. Hmmm. Maybe he'd be nice to someone for a change. Wouldn't kill him, either way. He'd fish around in his bag, rifling around for a few moments with a thoughtful look on his face. He'd scoot over a bit on the rock before laying down another packet of chopsticks, some bottled water, a bowl, and a cup of those instant noodles he was eating. They were the ''good kind'', at least to him; mixed in veggies and some dried and cured beef too. The guy looked like he'd been on the road for some time, so no matter how this turned out, maybe it would help. ''I've got some extra if yer hungry. Shame neither of us know the area n'all, but hopefully there's a village or somethin' like that close by. Not much of a variety in supplies, but it's somethin'.'' He'd still keep his sword cradled where it was, taking another bite of his food while he attempted to make heads or tails of his memories concerning any landmarks around. Living almost all of your up-til-now life in a temple full of monks that didn't travel really didn't help with geography. Dian Xin

All roads lead somewhere... There was wisdom in that, thought Dian Xin, as unintentional as it might be. Dian Xin mused on the thought for a moment as the man continued to speak. So, he was headed eastward as well. Interesting, really. Dian Xin had been under the impression there was little of note out in the east. Had the halfblood come across a vagabond like himself? And, from the looks of it, one who also wielded a blade. A long blade was resting against the man's back. Another swordsman, noted Dian Xin. Briefly, Dian Xin wondered what he used it for. A man carried a weapon for a reason, be it that reason good or bad. And there was only one thing a weapon was really used for: killing. Sure, thought Dian Xin, it could be in defense of oneself or in the defense of another, as he often wielded his own blade, but it could also be used for less savory purposes. "The two of us are both eastbound and without so much as a clue where we're headed?" Said Dian Xin with a chuckle, "Well, I suppose you're right: every road leads somewhere, though sometimes there's comfort in knowing where." He gave the man a sideways grin. There was something funny to him about two lost swordsmen. Wandering blades in the wilderness, just like in one of the old stories. What would be a good name for a story about this encounter? 'Journey to the East'? Dian Xin shook the thought off as the man scooted over to the side and made his offer. At that moment, Dian Xin's unearthly eyes lit up and his heart and stomach leaped! Food! Perhaps the kind fates really had led him to this encounter, the forces that be taking pity on the young wandering blade. "Ah! Thank you so much," he exclaimed as he scrambled onto the rock to join the man. Quickly, he plopped himself down next to his fellow sword-wielder. Dian Xin worked quickly, nodding his thanks all the while, and set to preparing the cup of noodles. Meanwhile, his stomach let loose another roar of hunger. "Thank you again, stranger," enthused Dian Xin, "You would not believe my luck as of late. Though, maybe it's finally turning."He turned to face the man and offered a small, sitting bow. "The name is Dian Xin, by the way, wandering swordsman by trade," he added. He thought it only proper that he introduce himself to the man who had shown such kindness. He might be a vagabond half-demon, but Dian Xin still had manners! Luo Hanzhai

Luo would smirk at the stranger's musings. He did have a point though; they were lost, alright. The only difference now is they were lost as a pair and sharing a meal on the road. Of course the other difference would be that Luo was far too stubborn to admit he was ''lost''. He didn't like the tone of the word, personally. Lost, to him, just meant ''I just haven't decided where i'm going yet''. He was unknowingly sharing the same thoughts as the stranger. Two swordsmen out on the road, meeting by a chance of fate and both had no idea where they were. It sounded like the beginning of some old story when he really focused on the subject matter. He nodded in acknowledgement with a smile as he offered food, only to have the stranger hurriedly scramble up beside him and begin preparing his newly-acquired share of the food. The stranger thanked him, and mentioned he'd been struggling with a bout of sour luck as of late. It almost made Luo want to laugh; he wasn't the only one, after all. Luo had been swindled out of his money, was on the barely-winning side of a scrap with a bunch of androids, and was pretty much broke. His only blessings were his knotted sword, his food, and the open road. Nowhere to go but up, he guessed! At last the stranger would reveal their name; Dian Xin. He also offered a thankful little seated bow. At least he had manners; a lot of other wanderers would just resort to waiting til nightfall to steal something, and the more bold ones were armed and tried it in broad daylight. Luo figured if that blade of Dian Xin's carried any ill intent, it would have been drawn by now, same as his own. Without thinking, he'd mumble garbled gibberish through a curtain of noodles hanging from his mouth as he turned to return a bow back. He'd realize what he was doing, and quickly turn his head to slurp down the thick curtain of food. Turning back to the newly not-stranger, he'd correct his distracted bow this time around. ''Nice ta meet'cha, Dian Xin. Name's Luo. Luo Hanzhai. I'm not all that sure what I do for a trade. Kind of a mercenary with morals, I s'pose I could say. I've always been pretty good at fightin', so it's kinda a career path now. Funny how that works.'' It was then that Luo caught a real good glimpse at Dian's stranger features. He had a head full of some pretty dark red hair. It wasn't that weird, just a bit uncommon. Then of course, he'd managed to catch an eye-corner of his new acquaintance's pointed ear. That was certainly strange. He didn't have much room to talk though; beneath his clothes and wrapped around his waist was a brown tail, after all. He decided not to bring anything up, pointedly convinced he had this guy beat in weird factor. He'd instead carry the conversation on. ''I've had some awful sour luck m'self, lately. Broke, finally get me some worked lined up, then the shady little runt darts off with my Zeni. I ended up fightin' off a couple of ugly, rickety machines. I helped out a village with a bandit problem a lil' while back and they figured they'd thank me by handin' over the supplies i've got now, so 'least I can eat plenty and still have as much 'ta share.''

Dian Xin smirked as the man mumbled something through the mass of food in his mouth. Given a few more moments, Dian Xin would probably find himself in a similar situation, foot in his mouth. If his foot were made of noodles, of course. But Dian Xin did not comment, instead he only shrugged it off; the halfblood was not exactly a stickler for table manners. One kind of lost that sense after spending their life on the road. Not nearly bestial, but certainly not a hoity toity snob who'd turn their nose up at such manners or lack of such. Besides, it seemed that the man had found a way through the jungle of noodles in his mouth and was now speaking. 'Luo Hanzhai', thought Dian Xin, the righteous mercenary. Dian Xin nodded his head as the man spoke, finding some degree of identification with those words. Dian Xin had walked the path of a warrior for the longest time as well, though he regretted to say he did not manage to make much coin out of it; the halfblood's service often came free of charge. A habit that oft been him in dire straits, but physical and financial, but it was something he'd learned from his father. "Hear, hear," muttered Dian Xin, "Funny indeed how that works out. I guess some people are just meant to walk a path lined with martial matters."The man recounted his story of ill luck and Dian Xin found himself grimacing in sympathy for his fellow wandering swordsman. Clicking his tongue and shaking his head, the hybrid moved to check the noodles, noting that they were not quite done yet, before he turned his torso and head to face his companion. "Rough break, Luo," said Dian Xin, "Never fun to have someone go back on stuff like that, aye? Though I guess what comes around goes around." Dian Xin nodded to the cup noodles. "At the very least, you did right by some villagers and they did right by you. Better luck than I can say I've had. Ran into one of them majin bubblegum fellows and it kicked me up and down a beach until it jacked some food from my bag."Dian Xin had to chuckle ever so slightly, despite his misfortunes. "I guess that's just the way the winds of fortune blow. One day you meet a bubblegum mugger and the next you meet a wandering swordsman with enough noodles to go around."
