I've been thinking about suggesting this for a while, and here it is!
Pretty much what it says on the tin. In all of the rp's I have been apart of, having custom schools has always met master-student relationships feel more real and worthwhile (other than plot reasons). This way, villans have schools they can train at also, since the Turtle/Crane schools seem mostly for neutral/good characters.
Of course, some limitations are in order to stop any possible metagaming that might pop up (if this is ok'ed of course):
-The school itself and it's techs must be put in a suggestion thread so that mods and possibly other players can help tweak and refine it -The founder needs a good rp reason to open the school (Teach techniques before passing on, restarting a family tradition, gathering an army e.t.c). Any students that want to join need to have a 'tryout thread' which they are tested to see if they are worthy -The school is a building and costs....mmm lets say 15k zeni for now, to set up -Possible admission cost for accepted students?

I actually like this idea, and it's something i'd been thinking of myself as well. I agree with a lot of the ideas here; having different schools with different motives and allegiances would be pretty neat and could bring a lot of diversity to our characters here. As for the points in the latter half;
1. I agree. Schools can have some pretty impressive stuff, as already witnessed with the Turtle and Crane. Being able to discuss and tweak the techniques is a good idea.
2. Also agree. Starting a school with a concrete motive and reason behind it I feel is incredibly important and adds great flavor to the role playing of its member base.
3. We can see what others think of the cost, but I certainly agree this shouldn't come cheap.
4. An admission cost would be a good idea as well; probably nothing incredibly steep, but the techniques a school offers are powerful with our current examples.
As for my own additions, just these two points.
1. When a school is to be made, I feel an application process detailing all of this information would be both necessary and important, both for the crunch of the mechanics and for the betterment of roleplayers that might want to join it.
2. Possibly include an admission cost within a range based on what the founder feels is appropriate within a certain range. Some teachers may be more against taking on students than others, and wish for a higher proof of motivation to ''filter'' everyday fighters from those they feel would be very strong. This could create a dynamic of realism, where villains may charge a tiny bit more as proof to the cause. Alternately, a flat cost could be implemented but also each school founded could have an objective required by the founder in order to join. For a heroic/good school, it could be helping a weak fighter in a battle. For a villain, it could be teaming up against one of the villain's rivals or an ally of that rival, and so on.

1. I assume you mean a process similar to character apps? If so, I agree, maybe even a template should be developed. Of course, accepted schools should probably be added to the official thread or a 'custom schools' thread. 2. Also agree with this, though a range should probably be set up. Wouldn't want someone to charge like 100k zeni for admission . I have always liked schools, and I would love if I could bring it to DBU. Therefore, let the discussion and criticism flow!

I probably should'a worded it better but yeah that's what I meant pricing should totally have a minimum and maximum if implemented. And yep, I mean just like character apps with their own template.
