They had just returned from a successful mission from near the southern border. A small war band had appeared while they had been on patrol and they had been forced to engage under such rules of engagement. She could still remember her squad as they had been all pinned down behind cover, the barrage of energy blast serving as a hail storm above them. She could remember the taste of the very dust of the land from the smoke to have been created. It’s grimy dirty taste in her mouth as she tried to think of a way out of such trouble. She could still remember the voices of her squad during her plan. “Delta Leader, this plan is crazy, there’s no guarantee of it even working! We could all die out here!”, Toma had yelled at her, his voice having been full of fear at the time. He had been the new recruit after all, she couldn’t blame him. Her plan then had been crazy, downright for some it wouldn’t have even worked. How long was it though till such luck was to run out? Even though they had won their small battle, she had risked the lives of her comrades, something she couldn’t quite place past herself. That was why tonight she wasn’t at the pub with the rest of Delta Squad, tonight she was out here on the rooftops of the elite sector housing. Gazing into the stars trying to wrap her head around one simple question. What was next? “What would you do mother? What would you do if you were still here now? Elites and yet mere middle grounds of such. How can I prove your death honorable if I can only get around by luck? How can I expect to be more of a fighter like you or father when I can’t wrap my head around the mere basics?”, she would say seemingly to no one as she gazed upwards towards the skies, her head lying on the ground as she watched the various constellations. “I just wish you were at least here now, so I could at least know these answers.”, her words would speak once more before she would doze off to her own dreams. Only mere moments before such rest. “I just want to have my own chance one day…” Retasu Stats: 200 Exp, 3d30, 450/450 HP 6 / 6 GP

"Sometimes a warrior's luck is all they have, though I wouldn't consider your capabilities solely based on that." A voice could be heard above her, a deep and serious tone, yet soft as well coated with a great sense of pride. It definitely was the harsh tone one would get if they were instead Retasu's enemy. If she were to look to the side, she'd see the Northern King standing there atop the same roof as hear, leaning back against one of the walls there with his arms crossed over his armored chest. His attire was the usual white and gold vest battle armor with the appropriate blue bodysuit, white gloves and gold tipped boots finished the ensemble. Retasu's expression showed something of a smirk on his face, if she were to turn and look towards him, the King in the North had been looking for her since her latest winning excursion. "Sorry to intrude, I wanted to congratulate you on your latest victory, though it appears you weren't out celebrating with your group."
It would be a rare, public appearance for the King. Since his power had begun to spike upwards considerably, he took to being more of a public figure than previously, with less guards and protection. His losing battle with the Durian, Kiwano, still fresh in his mind yet kept out of the public's eye. Even someone like Kaila, who was a squad leader, wouldn't know about it. His pride wouldn't let him. "I know this war has taken a toll on everyone, even those in the South, to be frank. I plan on ending it as soon as possible. There have been rumblings that a new false king has taken the throne, some Saiyajin from an upper class family." His head tilted some, that mane of black was tied back as usual, a few defiant spikes could not be contained, though, poking out over his forehead. "Are you doing alright, Kaila? Usually people don't look up to the sky for answers unless there's something truly wrong."
He gave the night sky a glance himself. She had been talking to her dead parents, apparently. It was something he never did, or thought of. What was gone, was gone. Is that who people spoke to when they looked to the sky for answers? Did the dead really talk back?

She had come here thinking she would’ve been alone, somewhere to recede in her furrowed thoughts by herself. Simply of everything they had possibly expected to possibly hear, this single voice had been one she had least expected. Her eyes could only widen as her gaze broadened to the man before her. True royalty, the true king of Saiyans. “M…My King, I didn’t expect to find you up here.”, she would say seemingly stunned at first. While yes, the king she had noticed had been making more and more public appearances, having him be right here, so close to her and speaking directly to her, not as the squad leader, but as her? It was strange of a feeling one of strange fear in her gut and yet pride that she had gotten this honor to speak with the king of all people. The king’s words of all things, his voice so deep and yet with softness to it she wasn’t quite used to. “My King, thank you, but really everything that had happened near that border had been just luck. If that storm hadn’t hit. We never would’ve been able to get the jump on our attackers.”, she would admit purely to her king. She had known more than better that her strategy out in the field had only worked by chance. Next time they were caught off guard, what were they to do then? Luck couldn’t save them all the time, and while she was above the typical low class Saiyan, she was only middle class when compared to the other elites and their raw strength. As the king would begin to explain why he had been out here, her look simply couldn’t be more than one of confusion. However, his next move was possibly the most shocking of all things. He began to speak of the war, of it’s toll on everyone, even those in the south. She couldn’t help but feel excited knowing how their king planned to end this war as soon as they could. It was enough to bring a smile back to her face. As she would brush her own spiked hair back a bit, trying to keep the single fallen strand from dangling over her eye, she would speak back to her king. “I honestly can’t wait for this war to end, we just got our new recruit in my squad, and frankly I don’t know how I would be able to handle the loss of any of my squad mates, their like family to me in a strange way. The sooner their safe though, one less worry for me to deal with.”, Kaila would openly admit as she noticed her king look to the sky himself, she couldn’t help but wonder what he thought sometimes, of what was wrapped in the mind of someone like himself. There was the matter of his question now however, “Honestly, do you ever feel like you just haven’t lived up to your parents’ expectations? Ever since I’ve lost my mother, my father berates me for not having done enough. I can’t help but wonder sometimes, if I truly haven’t lived to their hopes. When I look towards the skies, I have no clue if my mother ever hears me really, or if she’s even watching, but a feeling inside me feel better knowing that just maybe she’s listening, and that maybe just maybe one day, she will give me some kind of an answer.”, she would simply speak towards her king, there was no use in hiding things from him. The last thing she wanted was to be a suspicious target. “What about you my liege? If you don’t mind me asking, have you ever felt like you’ve not lived to your ancestors wishes?” Tags: Retasu Stats: 200 Exp, 3d30, 450/450 HP 6 / 6 GP

"Maybe it's not so much your good luck, but the South's bad luck, eh? Either way, try not to harp too much on it. If I didn't think you were capable you would know it." His words sounded a bit gruff in what they were, but not in tone. Retasu spoke to her in that same manner as before, though he was very much straight forward with everything in regards to the Empire and this entire civil war. His eyes eventually broke away from the night sky to look back towards her, his arms still crossed over his armored chest, resting there. Her question was a bit odd, never really thinking much about what his ancestor's were thinking at all, if that was even possible. "Hrm? Honestly, I can't say that I've ever thought about that. This war has been going on longer than any one of us who are alive right now. All of our ancestor's were unable to end it, I plan on doing what they couldn't." Though his demeanor was not the same as the typical Saiyajin male, or Saiyajin in general, Retasu still exhibited some of that distant emotion when it came to things like ancestry and family. The only thing that really mattered was who he was born as and why he was here, everything else would fall into place by Retasu's hand.
"To me, the dead are dead. They fulfilled their purpose and cease to exist. Unless someone else can completely prove otherwise, I think it's better to not dwell on the things that aren't there." The assumption was that extinguished life mimicked a flame being snuffed out, it ceased to exist allowing nothing but darkness to fill the void. Retasu was a believer in this, which was more of a reason for him to fulfill his destiny of reuniting their planet as soon as he could. His intention was not to berate the thoughts and feelings Kaila had for her deceased mother, but rather give her his point of view on how to move on. "And as far as your father's attitude towards you, you should remind him you are an Elite member of my Royal Military. You are doing plenty, just like everyone else that is under me." He leaned back some, resting against a pillar on that rooftop. "Everything else falls on my shoulders. Reuniting the planet, bringing our people into a new age of power and productivity, everything that comes with the blood that flows through this body is all me." He offered somewhat of a small smirk to her, a light shrug followed. "It's not up to any of you to do the King's job, leave that to me." He looked back upwards to the sky at that point. "I apologize if my answer was a bit... cold. I'm just not entirely sure using one's energy to try to get an answer out of the dead is worthwhile." Retasu looked back down to Kaila at that, another shrug was offered. "But whatever brings you to peace. Just don't let it distract you too much. Whether you think it's luck or not, I'm leaning heavily on your abilities as a fighter and a leader to keep the South at bay. I need some more time now that this new usurper as popped up all of a sudden."
The notion of another thorn in his side in the form of a false king was almost enough to make Retasu roll his eyes, though he refrained from doing so. Instead, he turned his attention back to Kaila. "Has your team been able to gather any intel on the bastard?"
Kaila, sorry for the delay.
