At long last, a slither of light snook through the tattered blinds covering Tartus' window. It had been a long night to say the least, and the sun was a somewhat welcome sight, even if it did make his headache worse. It was always like this when Tartus drank his bank balance dry. The splitting headaches made it impossible to focus, even the most mundane of tasks became a monumental achievement. Whenever he closed his eyes, hoping to rest for just a minute from the pain in his head, he was greeted by those grisly visions once more. He was back in the central Wastelands, the bodies of two children lay cold and bloodied on the dirt before him. Their faces morphed to that of his own children, Tobaga and Scallio, their lifeless eyes piercing through his mind. His hands were slick with blood, their blood. He turned to flee, but he collided with another body, this time of his former teammates. Everywhere he turned there was death, his children, his wife, his comrades. No matter how hard he tried to escape, another body would always apear before him. Eventually he would break down, screaming out in anguish. Suddenly he was back in his own bed, there was no death around him anymore. His skin was slick with sweat and his throat slightly hoarse, then the headache came back. This cycle continued through the night, until eventually morning brought the warrior some respite. Slowly, he swung his legs out of bed, each movement was like a needle through his brain. He needed a drink badly, to ease the pain and keep the visions away, but without money, he had no chance. Of course this wasn't the first time Tartus had been in this situation, as much as he wouldn't want to admit it, it was a regular occurance for him. Standing gingerly, his legs shaking as they bore his weight. Tartus strode over to a chair in the corner of the room. His only set of armour lay draped over the chair, the only piece of furniture in the tattered room besides a bed. He slipped the armour on, before slinking through the door. Before long, Tartus arrived at a familiar door. He couldn't remember the journey, as though his feet had carried him here on their own free will. Yet this was a place he had visited many times before. He pushed open the door with one hand as he held his pained head with the other. "Damn Tartus, you look like shit" a voice from inside the building bellowed. "And you smell like it too, have a damn wash will ya'" Tartus could only manage a grunt back as he stepped inside the house. The room inside was only small, a couple of chairs dotted around he sides, will a single wooden counter running along one wall. Leaning against the counter stood a tall man named Cumber, he eyed up Tartus as he entered. "You need to sort yourself out, seriously" Cumbers tone shifting from jovial to serious. Tartus waved away his concern with the back of his hand. He didn't need another person telling him to get off the drink, certainly not when he felt this bad. "What've you got?" Tartus spoke softly, as though the words were stabbing his brain on the way out of his mouth. "For someone in your state, nothin'" Cumbers replied. "When have I ever let you down?" Tartus spoke someone more purposefully. That was the think with Tartus, at least until now anyway. No matter how bad he felt, no matter how much he abused his body. He still completed his missions. Afterall, a failed mission meant no money, and no money meant no drink. He was probably the most motivated Saiyan on Cumber's books. "One day soon you will, and when you do, it won't just be your name you drag through the mud" Cumber stood up tall as he berated the suffering Saiyan. "You got a job or not?" Tartus replied, ignoring Cumbers previous statement altogether. "I need some up front as well" Cumber sighed, slouching back onto his counter top. "Nobody wants to pay up front anymore Tartus." The sober Saiyan stepped away from the counter, collapsing into one of the chairs in the corner of the room. "They will if you ask them" "You're a dick Tartus, anyone ever tell you that?" Shouted Cumber as he walked back through a doorway at the back of the room. It was a simple play for Tartus, he knew Cumber didn't want someone as scruffy and stinking as Tartus hanging around his waiting room. Potential customers would never give him business if they knew someone like Tartus worked for him. So all Tartus had to do, was wait it out. Eventually Cumber would find a job that paid up front, or he would pay the money himself just to get rid of him.

Minutes passed by as Tartus played the waiting game. Cumber' voice muffled from the back office as he discussed with his clients, hoping one of them would agree to a little down payment. Tartus couldn't quite make out what was being said, but then again, that was the whole reason Cumber had gone into the back room.
Eventually the door swung open, Cumber slowly paced into the room, eying up Tartus.
"Well?" Tartus asked, sitting up straight in his chair.
"I got you one. It's gonna cost you though. The client will only pay you eighty percent of the total reward if you take twenty up front." Cumber could barely hide his frustration. Making this deal must have cost him some commission as well.
"Fine, I'll do it" Tartus snapped, pushing himself up to his feet.
Cumber paused for a moment, before his professional demeanor returned. "OK, here is your mission brief" He held out a small chip "My client requires a..."
"I'll take it" snapped Tartus as he snatched the chip from Cumber's palm. Stashing it away on a pocket on the inside of his armour, before holding out an open hand. "And I'll take my prepayment now"
Cumbers open palm clenched into a fist, he paused for a moment as the shock of being so rudely cut off sunk in. Instinctively he wanted to punch Tartus right where he stood. But the nature of his business was one of discretion. If he started a brawl in his "office", it might bring some authorities to investigate. That was a far worse prospect than allowing Tartus to leave unharmed, as tempting as it was. Instead Cumber grabbed a handful of credits, pushing them into Tartus open hand.
The aging Saiyan instantly turned on the spot, marching out the door clutching his handful of money.
"Pleasure doing business with you" Cumber shouted sarcastically, Tartus only grunted in reply.
It wasn't long before Tartus found himself in a nearby bar. It wasn't one he visited often, but it was one he wasn't barred from and it was close to Cumbers office. He didn't waste any time in ordering a bottle of the "strongest, cheapest drink you have." Whatever it was, it tasted disgusting, but then again, that wasn't why Tartus drank anyway. By the time the bottle was half empty, the headache had begun to fade away, replaced with a swirling sensation of dizziness. As the last drops of foul tasting spirit made their way down Tartus' throat, the headache had finally subsided completely. For the first time today, Tartus felt alive.
Reaching inside his armour, Tartus pulled out the chip he had taken from Cumber. As easy as it would be to simply ignore the mission, to take the money and run, he just couldn't do it. Despite his appearance, Tartus still had some honour. Drilled into him from years of training, years of missions for the Saiyan army. Of all the things Tartus had lost, his commitment to a mission wasn't one. Plus, if he wanted to ever work for Cumber again, he knew he couldn't mess this one up.
Reaching to the side of his face, Tartus attempted to plug the chip into his scouter, only to realise he wasn't wearing it. He remembered through the haze of drunkenness, he had broke it only a few days earlier during a bar room brawl. He had every intention of getting it fixed, but each day he found some excuse to spend his money on drunk instead.
"Hey, you! Give me your scouter" Tartus barked at a nearby young Saiyan.
The Saiyan was small in stature, tall spiked hair giving the illusion of a taller man than he actually was. Even in the bad shape he was in, Tartus would have no problem should the small Saiyan try to resist.
"Huh?" The spiked haired Saiyan tellies as he turned to face Tartus.
As soon as the Saiyan's made eye contact, Tartus grabbed for the scouter, not willing to waste anymore time. The young soldier gripped Tartus by the forearm, trying to hold him away from his goal. As soon as Tartus felt fingers wrap around his arm, his soldier instincts kicked in. His free arm moved at lightning speed, slamming a fist into the young Saiyan's unguarded face. A stream of blood burst from his nose like a miniature fountain. His head reeled back with the impact, forcing him to stumble backwards before tripping over a bar stool. All the while, his scouter remained locked in Tartus' grip. As the solider fell into the ground, Tartus didn't give him a second glance. He simply attached his newly acquired scouter to his right ear, before slipping the chip into the port.
All around the bar, Saiyan's rose from their chairs. When a fight broke out amongst a warrior race such as the Saiyan's, it didn't take much for it to turn into a brawl. Only the slightest excuse would be enough for half of the patrons in the bar to join in. This time however, the fight was over before it had begun. The young warrior was slowly rising to his feet, but he had no fight left in him. He wiped the blood from his face, only for it to be replaced with more, as it still gushed from his nose. Holding his head low, his tail between his legs, he was a picture of submission.
Meanwhile the scouter screen flickered to life, beaming the contents of the chip in to Tartus' eyes. Plain text scrolled into view, outlining his simple mission brief.
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTACK THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUAL. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE ATTACK DOES NOT LOOK PREMEDITATED. YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT KILL THE TARGET.
Once the text had been displayed for a second, it moved over to the periferary. An image of a Saiyan appeared in the empty space. The saiyan was a female, wearing the armour of a low class Saiyan. Her short spiked hair stood up in tufts, her body covered in muscle. She certainly looked capable of giving Tartus a good fight.
As quickly as it had arrived, the information on screen disappeared. The only thing that remained, was a small square. The standard icon for location tracking. Obviously the scouter had automatically begun to track the target.
"I'm gonna need to keep this" Tartus snarled towards the scouters former owner, before marching out of the bar towards his target.

Each step through the streets of the northern city brought Tartus closer to his target. The aging Saiyan never really thought that much about these "missions" that he takes from Cumber. He knew they weren't exactly above board, he wasn't that naive. Taking missions from some non government official out of some office in the middle of nowhere didn't exactly scream legit. Then there was the nature of the missions, there was always some element of being underhand at play. In this case it wasn't just that he was attacking someone, it was that it had to look like a random act of violence, not premeditated.
As Tartus rounded the upcoming corner he finally caught sight of his Target. The female Siayan was just heading inside a house halfway down the street. For a second he thought about breaking into the house in order to attack her, but that would be too obvious that she was attacked. Instead, he needed to wait for her to come back out into the public. Seen as his newly acquired scouter was tracking her movements, there really was no reason he had to wait nearby.
Backtracking a few streets, Tartus headed back to a run down shop he had passed earlier. It was the type of place you wouldn't want to shop unless you were desperate, it's uninviting exterior looked more likely to drive customer away that entice them inside. It didn't really matter to Tartus, he had been in worse places and done worse things to get his hands on a drink. Inside, he used more of his prepayment for the mission, to buy a cheap bottle of vodka. The shop worker put the bottle inside a paper bag, but it wasn't going to last long enough for that to be necessary.
As soon as Tartus was outside, he cracked open the lid, taking a swig of the clear liquid inside. The remaining contents were poured into a metal flask that he kept in his inside breast pocket. Once the flask was full, whatever was left in the bottle was quickly sent down his throat. The whole thing had taken seconds, like a solider maintaining his gun, the actions were so well rehearsed, they were almost a perfect routine.
Suddenly the scouter came to life once more, the target was on the move. Shoving the flask back inside his armour, Tartus headed back towards her location. As luck would have it, she was headed right towards him, all he needed now, was an excuse to fight her as she passed him by.
"Hey" Tartus smiled towards the target as she approached. She however didn't even bother to make eye contact.
"No need to be so down, I can put a smile on that face" He continued, using the smarmiest voice he could muster.
"Leave me alone" She snapped back.
"And miss out on all this?" Tartus followed up, pointing a hand towards himself.
The female Saiyan shot back a look of disgust, she had probably been treated like this before. This type of interaction was quite common in the bars Tartus frequented, but Saiyan women were strong and proud warriors, they often replied with violence. Just as Tartus was hoping for.
However she didn't appear to be biting, instead she sped up her pace and began to pass Tartus by. He needed to act quickly, fearing it would be too obvious if he had to chase her down. As soon as she was next to him, Tartus wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her in close to him. This type of invasion of personal space would get even the most calm of people enraged.
"Come here " Tartus slurred, his breath thick with alcohol, barely masking his body odour.
Just as planned, she reacted. Snapping in anger, her face contorted from disgust to rage. She drove a knee into Tartus's gut, before pushing him backwards in an attempt to make space between the pair. The speed of her strike caught Tartus off guard, leaving him stumbling backwards, coughing.
"I wouldn't touch you if you were the last man on Daikondu. You make me feel physically sick" She spat at Tartus.
The aging Saiyan simply smiled back, she had taken the bait. A couple of nearby Saiyan's watched on as the situation escalated, loving nothing more than to watch a fight unfold. There was no way any of them would thing this was a targeted attack, at the very least he had succeeded in that.
Tartus stepped towards his target, again she reacted with violence, lashing out with a kick towards his face. This time however he was ready, catching her foot in his hand. Countering with a kick of his own to her standing leg, causing her fall backwards onto the ground.
Only then he did notice the bag she was carrying in her left hand. The contents of which spilled across the ground as she fell.
However Tartus didn't get chance to get a good look at it, as his target quickly sprang back to her feet. Attempting to knock her back down, Tartus struck out with a straight kick. The female Saiyan jumped over his leg, allowing it to pass harmlessly underneath her. As Tartus still followed through on his failed attack, his Target performed a mid air roundhouse, connecting her boot with his cheek.
Tartus stumbled backwards from the blow as his opponent pressed her advantage, following up with a straight punch aimed towards the older Saiyan's face. Reacting quickly, Tartus moved his head to the side, narrowly avoiding the punch. Moving as fast as he could he gripped the young low class Saiyan's forearm, pulling her towards him, just as he raised his opposite elbow to smash into her chin.
Realising the predicament she was in, with her arm still firmly gripped by Tartus, the female low class Saiyan drove a knee deep into the drunken Soldiers gut. The shock of the impact caused Tartus' grip to loosen slightly. Realising the opportunity to free herself had arisen, the female Saiyan pulled her arm back suddenly, freeing it completely. With her now released arm, she whipped her arm through the air, hitting Tartus with air powerful back hand with enough force to send the he larger Saiyan up into the air momentarily, before crashing back down to the street.
"Back in the gutter, where you belong" she taunted towards the prone Tartus. Her face beaming with excitement from her victorious battle.
"Hey!" A random bystander shouted "She works for Cauli right? Look what she was carrying"
A small crowd had now gathered to watch the street fight, nobody particularly cared who won or lost, but the spilled contents of the female Saiyan's bag was garnering interest. The smile quickly faded from the low class Saiyan's face as she noticed the crowd swarm around her dropped items.
Meamwhile Tartus slowly pulled himself to his feet, the blow to the face had really took it out of him. As he looked around, he saw the crowd decend on his target, their faces etched with anger. One of the members of the baying crowd held a piece of paper in his hands. It was a pro Southern Saiyan Empire poster.
His mission made sense now, not that it mattered a great deal to Tartus. Whoever had hired him must have known that Cauli was working with the Southern Empire, getting one of Cauli's underlings attacked in the street, could expose the whole thing with a little luck. The reason the attack had to look random and non premeditated, it because whoever set the mission up, didn't want to be implicated. They wanted the whole thing to appear as nothing more than an unfortunate coincidence. Tartus didn't really care though, he didn't need to know who it was that ordered the mission. All he cared about, was completing the mission so he could collect his payment.
As the crowd attacked the female Saiyan, shouting "Traitor" and "Southern Scum" As they did. Tartus smiled to himself, slowly turning away to let the mob take their own justice.
