Dian Xin had made it to one of the eastern towns, though he did not know the name of it. Somehow, the halfblood had missed the greeting sign on the way in. He could be oblivious like that. But he supposed it did not matter if he knew the name or not; Dian Xin would be leaving the town soon enough, as soon as he did his shopping. Maybe he would stick around to get a bite to eat or even sleep in a real bed for the night, but that would be all. The hybrid never stayed in one place for long. Dian Xin could never truly abandon his mistress: the road.
Though, she could be a real pain sometimes. Even now, Dian Xin could feel the road biting at him. The road had led him to town, but it came with a cost: the stitching in one of his boots was going. He could feel it, and the other one would not be far behind. "By the gods," he muttered, "I'm going to have to replace these things." A man would be foolish to take to the road without a good pair of boots at his side. That's what his father had always told him, and Dian Xin saw the wisdom in that advice. With the amount of walking he did, Dian Xin needed the support of a nice pair of boots.
Now, he just needed to find a store. A repair shop would do, he supposed, as would any clothing shop. So long as the keeper knew what they were doing, Dian Xin would gladly give them his business. Dian Xin wandered up and down the streets of the town, his boots falling further into the pits of disrepair with each step. He needed to find a shop soon, or else he might as well be walking bare foot.
Before long, Dian Xin turned down another street and a shop finally caught his eye. Dian Xin stopped dead in front of it and looked to see the sign on the establishment. "'Le Meow'," said Dian Xin to himself, "Seems a good as place as any."
Dian Xin entered the store, pushing the door aside. He looked about him and nodded to himself. This definitely looked like a clothing store. Now, he thought, hopefully they sold boots. He tossed his head about, crimson hair going either which way. Where was the shopkeep? "Excuse me," he called, "Is there a shopkeep around? I'm looking for something specific!"
