''WHAT!? YOU CAN'T DO THAT, YOU CHEAT!''
''What makes ya say that, small fry!? I've been at this game for years! Studying rule-books like homework, painting my incredible figures that make up my unstoppable armies! I moved my vanguard division across the field with a squad-level displacement beacon, purchased at the beginning of the match with my Supply Points just like anything else!'' ''But you didn't announce it!'' ''I don't have to; you never asked! Bwahahaha! You must have been too absorbed beaming about your out-of-the-box starter kit army! I bet you buy Limited sets just for the rare figures and throw out the commons, don't you!? You make me sick! VANGUARD, ADVANCE! SLICE 'EM TO PIECES!'' Punching his fist down on the large square ''Confirm Turn'' button on his side of the console, he watched as his energy-sword wielding Vanguards trampled dirt beneath their holographic boots. Charging down from a hilltop, the artillery team was powerless to stop them! Their blades ripped through the lightly armored unit, paving the way for Kiwano's own engineers to follow in behind and take the weaponry for themselves. ''M-my artillery! No!'' ''Even a rookie should know to station some Shieldbearers with their artillery at minimum! Amateur!''
On his next turn, he was going to combine the seized artillery with his own in a joint strike to level his forces! Victory was his! His turn over, his opponent was at a loss of what to do. He decided on a desperate charge with his Arm Blaster units to control the center, trying to cut off Kiwano's battlefield movement. The squadrons advanced before readying their weapons. His turn ended, and with nothing to combat his plan, Kiwano guffawed heartily. ''Fufufufu! Say adios to your rally point, bucko! Twin artillery barrage! FIRE!'' The rookie's face turned grim, a hologram scene playing out on the play field. The view cut to each of the artillery teams finding a target and firing, sandwiching the rookie's rally point between both explosive volleys of energy. Troops flew left, right, and away from the impact zone. Burning Tactics Points to order his Vanguards and Engineers to flee the artillery they'd just taken, they scurried away under a fog of war. Kiwano's display showed it, while the rookie's did not. Emptying his Tactics Gauge to have his Engineers lay mines on the way out, he snickered.
''Then i'll just take back my artillery and hit you back! Blaster Units, go for it!'' The squads advanced into a small minefield, causing casualties and sapping their morale. When they found nothing, their strategist (the rookie) began to panic as he ended his turn. ''Now, for my finishing blow! Auxiliary Vanguard Unit, jump packs away!'' Another clever use of Supply Points pre-match. He'd snuck that unit in behind a ridge not too far away, and their Supply Point-bought Jump Packs gave them just enough move to strike. With a roar, the unit leaped into action, falling upon their Blaster-wielding foes with beam swords. With their action points renewed, the primary Vanguard unit that had seized the artillery struck right back, re-entering the fray in a pincer attack. As the last soldier fell to the blades, the game's victory tune would ring. ''I thought I just crippled you. I won? Where was your hero!?'' ''...At the rally point.'' ''HA!'' Kiwano's scouter began to beep. ''Keep polishing your skills, and I might see you at a tournament. You got a long ways to go, bub. I gotta take this.''
Scooping his figurines into a hard plastic case, he'd snap it shut before answering the call, walking away from the arcade table. ''Kiwano, I appreciate the punctuality. We have a new assignment for you.'' ''Yeah? What'cha got for me?'' ''You'll need to travel to one Planet Daikondu. It isn't in the greatest shape, but we've got a one-way pod ready for your travel. Your job is to make your landing and observe the current state of affairs. Rumors floating around suggest a civil war...one that has recently become fairly one-sided. This won't do at all. The time is right to make a power move based off of your information. If this goes well, you're to set up a forward base on the planet. If the rumors are true, we'll replace the missing side nicely. Taking that planet will only be a matter of time.''
''I like it. Move in and install ourselves as the faction that just called it quits. Daikondu, though. I get the feeling I should be expecting some tough customers.'' ''You've got the right mindset, Kiwano. Keep up the good work and there's going to be good news in your future.'' ''Copy. I can't wait to drop in and say hello. Prep the pod; i'll be there in an hour. Gives me time to pack.''
He would close the channel after that and opt to head back home to his meager estate. Ever since the NPTO forced him to give up his championship, he'd lost a lot. Knowing that this order probably had something to do with Rambutan and Glacier made his stomach turn, but the tougher the trials they threw at him, the stronger he'd get.
His road to leadership was about to get a kick-start.
