It is a rather warm night, Lottus finds himself silently musing. Once again, his shift to scour the wastelands had come - and like all of them since the first, Lottus was not finding even a shred of proof that the Northern Empire was encroaching on the Southern territory. However, unlike those times, this time he is looking into the apparent remnants of a battle that had been waged only roughly a month ago.
Supposedly, the Northern King had come into combat with a rotund being - one wearing similar armor to that which his own people wore; which could only mean one thing, and it was a possibility that bode very poorly for both kingdoms, if the rumors were true. The Northern King was reportedly defeated in the battle, but left alive, which only meant that the Northern King's defeat was a statement, and not an invasion - not yet.
Lottus had been scouting the region where the battle took place for the better part of two hours now, and from the destruction he could see just how dire a situation they could really be in. He walks to the edge of a wide crater, lowering to one knee to observe it, and then raising his gaze to leer across the area. For this mission, Lottus had been selected to survey the area alone - there was little likelihood of running into the enemy, particularly at this time of night. For both Kingdoms, the wastelands are a dangerous place - especially at night - so the most efficient use for the troops was to have them patrol close to their respective borders.
Wild beasts littered the wastelands, though few were of an actual threat to a Saiyan. Certainly none of them posed a threat as long as he remained aware of his surroundings, and was quick to take to the sky if a particularly dangerous beast were to show itself. He looks skyward - the night sky is clear, with few clouds, allowing for the stars to shine brightly. From what he'd heard, there had been a few other minor skirmishes, but the one between the Northern King and the invader was garnering more attention at the moment.
Lottus takes a deep breath, and straightens his posture. Rapini would also be running a scouting mission tonight, though much closer to the Southern Kingdom's borders.

A sudden, loud, and abrasive screech would suddenly ring out from Lottus's communicator.
~Vsshhht~ ". . . . . Hey Uhhh. . . Lottus, you there?" a familiar voice called out, his voice somewhat perplexed. "Um, ok listen . . . apparently, some big stuff is going down right now, so I need you to finish up your patrol and get back to camp sometime soon" The voice ordered, now somewhat less garbled by radio static and more recognizable. It was your Squad Leader. "We've got some big orders from HQ; you're probably gonna get an automated message from the king in a bit" The voice explained, before reiterating "But regardless, just finish up and be on your way back pronto" The man said, before switching off his comms, and leaving Lottus once again in the peaceful quietness of night. (though it was later interrupted by Pars's wonderful voice explaining that Lottus's unit had been chosen for an operation)
Just to explain, this is simply so you know about the siege thread. you don't have to go back to camp or anything.

Lottus moved on from one battleground to the next, stopping only to make relatively brief investigations. Surprisingly, none of the areas he inspected seemed to leave any bodies - then again, scavengers could have picked the corpses clean, or, possibly, some of the bodies could have been obliterated by Ki blasts, or taken by other means. Reports suggested that King Pars and that mix-blood, Beefa, had battled the King Retasu out here as well - the fact that the Northern King survived both battles didn't exactly bode well.
Lottus was hunched over, observing scorched ground, when a hurried shuffling sound reaches his ears. Lottus turns around only a fraction of a second in time to see a fur-covered predator on six legs barreling towards him, its jowls open wide and lips pulled back in a vicious snarl to reveal several rows of serrated teeth! The beast was already upon him, leaping at Lottus, aiming to sink its many fangs into Lottus' throat - but the Saiyan instinctually turns towards the beast fully, and falls backwards. The beast's jaws narrowly miss Lottus' neck, allowing the Saiyan to take advantage of the tiny opening to ram his right foot into the beast's stomach. Lottus seizes the beast by the thick fur and rolls backwards to kick-launch the creature through the air to crash against a vaguely triangular boulder jutting out of the ground.
The boulder cracks from the impact, and the beast flops to the ground, unmoving. He knows these creatures... No sooner had the thought reached his mind did something crash against Lottus as he began to stand up - the creatures are pack hunters! Lottus manages to twist and grapple the beast, holding its massive head under one arm as he reacts to the sound of another flurry of feet, and fires a Ki blast that catches a third beast by surprise. He tightens his grip on the skull of the creature struggling to free itself from his grip, until he feel's the bone give way with a muffled crunch.
Lottus immediately lets the beast go, and flies skyward, putting at least sixteen meters between himself and the ground. He looks around the area, and spots another four of the beasts moving in, sniffing at their dead pack mates. Lottus lets out a sigh of relief, rising a few more meters to make certain he would be well beyond their leaping range, when his communicator emits a very annoying sound. Grimacing, Lottus activates the device and listens. At first, the transmission is garbled, but he quickly realized that his unit commander was the one speaking - however, it was with a rather unusually quizzical tone.
"Lottus responding..." he replies, and then silently listens to the unit commander's words. "Understood, sir."
With those few words, Lottus waited for the transmission to end, and crosses his arms over his chest. Big orders from Headquarters? Before Lottus can begin making up his own assumptions, the automated transmission the unit commander told him would come, finally arrives. Lottus blinks in surprise, hearing King Pars' voice proclaiming that his unit had been selected for some kind of operation. When the transmission ends, Lottus is silent for a few moments, his fingers curling into tight fists.
"Is it time already..?" Lottus mutters to himself, turning to face in the direction of the Southern Kingdom. He gazes out in that direction before suddenly rocketing back along the route back. If his suspicion was correct, then things were about to get very loud, very soon.

The route back to the borders of the Southern Kingdom would take only a couple hours if he'd chosen to fly fast, but out in the wastelands, Lottus knew he needed to be careful. He had no way to know for certain whether or not the Northern Kingdom had sent its own scouts into the region as well - though he highly suspected them to have. But the wastelands between the two rival kingdoms is vast, and in all likelihood, even if there are scouts from the north out, he was unlikely to encounter them. Or so he chose to believe.
Still, it never hurt to be cautious. Besides, when he arrived back in his own kingdom, Lottus would need to eat and rest. There was little point in rocketing through the air, where he could potentially draw unwanted attention, regardless of whether he believed the enemy was nearby or not. As the Saiyan leaps from rocky pillar to rocky pillar, a faint light catches his attention through his peripheral vision. Lottus stops atop one of the pillars, and turns towards the source, narrowing his eyes as he focuses.
Though it is faint, there is an unmistakable orange glow between a tight outcropping of boulders - a campfire. Lottus slips off the top of the stone pillar, quietly making his way towards the light source. After a few minutes, the Saiyan is close enough to peer over the top of the boulders, down at what he confirms is indeed a makeshift camp. He quickly glances at the camp - the campfire is placed at the center of the enclosure, it's light almost fully hidden by the jutting boulders that loom tall. Besides coming from the top, the camp has only one entrance or exit on foot, both an excellent measure to make almost certain you know what could be coming, but terrible as it would trap the occupants if they couldn't fly. Near the fire itself, covered by draping cloaks, are a pair of beings cooking what looks to be a slab of meat over the fire.
Enemy scouts..?
Unsure of what to make of it, Lottus climbs silently down to the ground in the dark, and makes his way around the boulders to the entrance. He steels himself, and walks through the passage and towards the camp. One of the cloaked beings turns slightly at the muffled bootsteps, and emits a squeak of surprise. The other being immediately pushes themselves to stand, pushing the now clearly much smaller being behind them. A long blade flashes into existence as it is hurriedly yanked from within the taller being's cloak, held in their right hand as they dutifully push the smaller being back with the left hand.
Lottus continues forward, unfazed by the appearance of the blade, and stop just short of the fire's glow's reach, making him only partially visible to the cloaked beings.
"Another step, and I will run you through!" the being growls, but the fear is unmistakable. Just who were these beings, Lottus wonders?

Lottus gazes at the cloaked beings silently, never dropping to the blade itself. The tense standoff continues for a few moments, and Lottus starts towards them again, making the larger being flinch and take a step back and push the smaller being again. After four steps, Lottus is bathed in the fire's glow, his brow furrowed and hands clenched into fists. The large cloaked being, Lottus notices, is actually somewhat shorter than himself, and the other being hiding behind them couldn't be anything but a child.
"The wastes are dangerous... why are you travelling them?" Lottus asks, keeping his tone level. The taller being visibly stiffens, never lowering the weapon, but seems to be considering whether to answer or not.
"What you call the wastes, is our home..." the being before Lottus replies, though grudgingly.
"I wasn't aware that there were roamers out here." Lottus admits, tilting his head slightly as he sees what he believes is a child try to peer around the taller being. He looks back at the taller being as the child is ushered out of view again. "That blade protects you from the beasts out here?"
"This blade, and our knowledge of the land." the taller being replies stiffly. "A land your people ravage whenever the urge to clash hits you."
Lottus says nothing at this, as there really isn't anything he could say. He glances around the camp, and notices a swift movement inside the makeshift tent. They were out of sight quickly, but he saw enough to know that it was another adult with an infant wrapped in cloth. He'd come across a family; the odds of them being spies for the Northern Kingdom were extremely low - but not impossible. Wanderers could be paid with supplies or foodstuffs in return for information. Even if they aren't spies, they could still supply the Southern Kingdom's enemies with remote but necessary information.
His orders were to scout the region, and if necessary remove any enemy scouts he happened across - but these people aren't his enemy, as far as he could tell. His eyes move from the tent, back to the armed being, who visibly readies itself.
"Four kilometers northwest are the six-legged predators." Lottus tells the being, who seems surprised. "I killed three of them, but the rest of the pack remains. I suggest that, if you heading in that direction, you take a rounded route to avoid being ambushed."
With that, Lottus turns to leave.
"You... you aren't going to try to kill us..?" the being asks, prompting Lottus to stop, just beyond the edge of the fire's glow.
"I have no reason to do so." Lottus replies, his tone curt. Without another word, Lottus leaves the camp and its occupants, levitating off the ground and heading skyward. He needed to get back to the Southern Kingdom quickly, and now that he knows that there are no enemy scouts in the area, Lottus rockets off through the air, through the night's chilling air.
Maybe he'd be able to get some sleep before the debriefing...
